Both of them had stuck their slushie-dyed tongues out for the picture as they held up their drinks with one hand and had the other arm around each other’s backs, squeezing their eyes shut for dramatic effect.
“Yeah,” Cassie said thickly. “That’s Jay. I didn’t mean to freak you out. It’s just…he was murdered fifteen years ago so you were right about me basically seeing a ghost.”
“Murdered?!” Emerson coughed before groaning again.
She was willing to bet that he had broken a rib in addition to his arm. Laughing and coughing both hurt him. That only made her feel guiltier. She had overshared to a stranger and shocked him when he was already hurt because of her. Anyone would react like that upon hearing that they looked like a murder victim.
